'Mari' is a gentle love story set in the midst of violence - the violence of a forgotten battle for Kohima.
Mari is not a love-story during the times of war. It is also purely not a novel about the Battle of Kohima in 1944. But, it is about simple people living and surviving in an imperfect world. The “heart and soul” of the novel is the story of the indestructible strength of the human spirit. The story of Mari is about human determination to rise from their wretchedness, rebuild their lives, and continue to live life fully again. Mari endears us simply because, in my opinion, we fear many of us may not find the same “indomitable spirit” of the characters the novel reminds us, within us anymore or experience the “simplicity” of lives and hearts that was then.
It was nice to work on this cover, as it is based on true story.
